No. But the external case bit would work.
I'm wondering if your best bet would be to buy an external firewire or USB case to stick the old drive in.
I bought one of those and converted an extra internal drive. It works well. Was around $70. But I wish it didn't require an external power supply.
It'll be a regular tower, not an iMac, so there should be room for a second drive. Don't know yet if I'll be buying a new G5 or a used G4, but I'll definitely be upgrading to the most recent version of OSX, no matter what it comes with.
It's an ATA drive.
(And it seems I lied about having to go out. Because they'd rather I pick up the tape tomorrow, it seems.)
Yeah, and ATA drive will drop right into a old generation Mac tower. The new G5's use serial ATA though, so you'd have to go external firewire enclosure on those.

Ah, good to know.
Just in case, I think I saw a good deal on enclosures in my dealmac.com newsletter recently. Hmmm...
The Triumph Diamond 5.25-inch FireWire enclosure, model no. AM-346F, costs $25 at PC Micro Store. It's the lowest price we know to be available by $2. Add around $6 for shipping. >[link]More: [link]
They aren't the cheapest, but these are my preferred Firewire enclosures. I own 5 of them right now.

They also have some open box ones, same warranty, for $8 less. Not much of a discount, but it's something.
I love you guys, but I should probably mention that the whole new computer thing is very contingent on me cleaning the apartment and finding a pile of money under the couch. It's a sometime-in-the-next-six-months plan, not gonna happen this week.
