Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Some of the materials for the course I just took were on floppy. I was way too loud when I said "Floppy? I don't know where my drive is." I don't have a working floppy drive between three computers at home, and it's infrequently a problem.

But it made me wonder. Those slot drives like the Powerbook has -- can you use mini CDs in them?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I'm pretty sure you can't - I think you need the tray kind for that.

That's what I thought! How annoying. I have a few I've never burnt, and now I need to consider more carefully what goes on them.

They're so damned cute. And a great floppy substitute. I hate seeing all that wasted space on the full sized one.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

eta: They think that most people who think they only have a CD drive are stupid and wrong and/or confused as to what a DVD drive is?

This is my best guess. I e-mailed Apple, like a cranky old woman, and told them they were whack.

No, I was polite, but explained how utterly inconvenient and needlessly complicated their program is and that it's very poor customer service and they should change their policy.

I expect them to print out the e-mail and then pee on it.

Some slot drives can take mini CDs - the one in my car does.

I don't know anything about the Powerbook one.

No, you can't. And I've heard horror stories about people getting one stuck in there and damaging the drive trying to get it out.

Also, I just recently learned you're not supposed to put double-sided DVDs in there. It will most likely damage the side of the DVD you're not trying to access.

That's... not right.

I've played double-sided DVDs in my Cube and my Mini, both of which have a slot-loading drive.

It's the new Dual Disc format. Which is the CD on one side/DVD on the other. It's thicker than regular CDs or DVDs.

I guess technically that's not a double-sided DVD.

Oh. That makes sense.

I'm not sure if it applies to slot loading CD players or not. I guess I'll find out this weekend when I try to watch the DVD side of Devils & Dust.
