Adware, virus ware, malware of some kind or you've been sharing your computer with teenagers - the first two are my personal guess if the last is false.

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I've run all that stuff on both of my computers, but looks like I'll need to do another run of them.
I don't share my computer with teenagers...but my roommate (Not!Emily) uses that computer occassionally (actually, Emily does too, but I think she would have fessed up when I laughingly showed her the files). I really doubt he'd download porn onto my computer and forget to erase it. He just seems to have more class than that...especially since it's mine. He's always so appreciative that I let him use the computer.
it might not be intentional. if you don't keep up with updates for spyware and popup blockers on Windows, just going to some sites may download extra stuff to your computer.
As for porn, some music downloads can use unsuspecting people's music sharing bandwidth to store things on your computer for distribution.
What size were/are the porn files?
W - you have AdAware and Spybot at minimum I presume. [Pest Patrol would be good too - but is not free.] Update them, reboot into safe mode and run them. If you use Internet explorer, stop (except for updateing your windows). All of the preceding assumes you have some version of windows, cause if you run on a MAC you don't need to worry about any of this
The running in safe mode is important. There are all sorts of ways the things can come back if you run anti-spyware in normal mode. Also update and run your Norton or MacAfee.
I am going to take the plunge and buy a printer to use with my Powerbook. I only need something basic, and will rarely if ever be printing anything other than Word or PDF documents (no photos). Does anyone have any suggestions or ones I should steer away from?
Okay, Tivo to Go...
1) The picture is narrow and not good quality when I watch a program back
That sounds like a codec issue. Try searching TivoCommunity.com because I know people have posted about the same issue.
2) Is it possible to convert the files to .avi or .mpeg? This service is no good to me if I can't find a free way to arrange my own library.
Officially? No. Unofficially? [link] and [link] have some info on doing conversions with GraphEdit.
Perkins, I'm not sure how much you want to spend, but we have been completely happy with the Brother 1440 laser printer we bought last year. I think it's more than an inkjet, but you never run out of ink and it's fast. Of course, it doesn't do color.
Thanks HS!
Don't suppose anybody has any idea why Apache httpd would keep giving me this error on Mac OS 10.4.1:
Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000
The rest of the log seems pretty unhelpful, as does Google. I was hoping 10.4.1 would fix whatever my problem was, but no luck.
Thinking of trying a reinstall, because this is actually annoying enough to warrant it (I like having a simple webserver, dangit) but I can't find my Tiger disc at the moment.
