Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Checked. Power cord plugged in.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Is it plugged in with a bunch of other stuff? Try switching to another outlet.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

It could be overheating.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Could be... but it doesn't feel particularly hot, and the fan always sounds like a vaccuum cleaner every time it starts up. There's nothing blocking the vents. I dunno; I'll turn it off for a while and maybe it'll magically fix itself.

Can someone help me out? I'm trying to download something off YouSendIt, but I'm using Safari, and if I click on the link to download the thing, instead of seeming to download it to my computer, it seems like it's trying to open it and stream it instead. I can't figure out how to change this. Help? (Of course, maybe at the end of the streaming it would've somehow been saved somewhere? But it hung up near the end, so I had to just stop it and give up (and when I hit stop, it didn't seem to have saved those bits anywhere).

Trust my rage

is Safari your only option? I've had success with YSI using Firefox. (IOW, I have no idea what the Safari issue might be.)

I can't figure out how to change this. Help?

Can you right-click (or control-click, depending on the number of buttons on your mouse) and choose the download option from the menu?

meara - May 14, 2005 9:41:35 am PDT #2911 of 10003

When I hit control click, and hit "download linked file as..." it downloaded the page, not the file. (And of course now, it's exceeded its limits and I have to ask the girl to put it up again, but I don't want ot ask until I know I can download it, but...)

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Can anyone tell me a possible reason why my computer spontaneously shuts itself off and restarts? It's happened three times in the last thirty minutes.

I have no advice, but my computer does this as well. I always thought it was a Windows thing, but I wonder now about the overheating possibility. (But since my shiny new Mac should be here on Monday or Tuesday, I've filed it under "thing I will soon not have to worry about anymore 'cause I'm replacing the damn thing anyway.")

Our wings are not tired

This sounds like overheating or a failing powersupply. Pop the case on the computer and see if the vents are clogged with dust or pethair. Also pop the case right after it shuts down and touch the powersupply and see if it is hot to the touch. If it is then it could be just overheating, or it could be dying.
