Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
Feelin' like a big idiot here.
I've googled for solutions to this problem and I suspect its solution is so duhm that it's beneath the spicy brains here...nonetheless...I need help.
Set up:
iMac running 9.1 and Pagemaker 6.5
I want to make a pdf of a document so that I can email it to a client.
I've made pdfs before, but somehow, something in the system has been fracked since last I tried.
The distillation goes along until I get a Postscript error.
The printer connected to this computer is an HP Laserjet 6L USB...no postscript.
I went through the process of creating a postscript translator but cannot figure out how to get it recognized by the chooser.
I used to be able to print Pagemaker files. Now? The text prints in shmooshy Courier.
What have I done?
The first flaw reported fools the browser into thinking software is being installed by a legitimate, or safe, website.
The second flaw happens when the software installation trigger does not properly check icon web addresses which contain JavaScript code.
So as long as you don't install any unknown software downloaded by the browser, you should be OK, yes?
Aw, CRAP.
My monitor was almost delivered today, but DH wasn't there to recieve it. Anyone know what FedEx's policy on computer deliveries is? (UPS automatically returns to sender, which is a ginormous PITA. I'm hoping FedEx will attempt a redelivery.)
[eta: Okay, they'll try again tomorrow. Fingers crossed...]
iTunes now selling videos: [link]
Music videos, so far.
So as long as you don't install any unknown software downloaded by the browser, you should be OK, yes?
Unchecking "Allow websites to install software" is the easiest way to neutralise the flaw for now. Extensions can be manually installed until a patch becomes available.
Oooh. Tablet laptop thingie from Apple would be cool. Not holding my breath though.
Meanwhile--is anyone else using Safari? The NYTimes suddenly started giving me weird looking pages, and saying it's because I must be using an "old" browser, or reading on a handheld. Which...not so much. Bastards.
Cars deemed safe from phone viruses. Huzzah!
Also, my monitor has arrived! It's shiny and pretty and I want to go home and ogle its shiny prettiness. The tower is currently "In Manufacturing" and is scheduled to ship by next Monday. Whee!
Does anyone know anything about hardware VPNs?
We have a Check Point VPN=1 Edge. My boss wants to set it up so that instead of all traffic going through the VPN box (i.e. it acts as a router in addition to a VPN) he just wants to stick it on our network, and connect both the LAN side and WAN side to the same network, so only stuff that needs to go through the VPN will go through it.
If that makes any sense....
Anyway, it doesn't work. It fails to make a connection to the internet on the WAN side.
