I look more rad than Lutheranism

I'm about to confess purest heresy: Tiger's features (from the descriptions and demos on Apple.com) don't thrill me enough that I have a burning need to upgrade immediately. My iBook is new enough, with Panther, that it does what I need it to do. And I'm still learning all its ins and outs. (Remember, I went from [gack] Windows ME at home and OS 9.1 at work to Panther on my iBook.)

I know, I know. I'm crazy in the head.

I wouldn't mind getting Tiger for work, but that's because I'm still on OS 9.1, and now I'm used to Panther's dock and Expose and other goodies, and then I come into work and try to F9 for Expose and nothing happens and it makes me sad.

Trust my rage

I'm excited about the Widgets and the Search functions. I should have Tiger up and running soon, so I hope it's as cool as it's supposed to be.

Our wings are not tired

I want the widgets, and the better iSync services and such. I live and die by having all my machines in sync and I'm a heavy user of the .mac services. I also want Mail2 and some other items.

Alas, I don't think I'll be able to mess with it until next week at the earliest.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Has anyone here created an RSS feed? I'm trying to organise mine, now that I've conquered the basic coding.

I have five subdomains whose updates I want to send out. Five separate feeds have the advantage that people can get all niche with their interest. However, it'd be simpler if I rolled them all into one, and when I add a site, not so much upheaval, just some code mods.

The units in the RSS file are channel and item. Do I make one channel with up to five items, or five channels? Am I allowed more than one channel in a file?

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

I'm stumped and the last few days Google has not been my friend. Is there anything I should be wary of or avoid when buying a second internal hard drive?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Argh. I still can't get this bad shit off my computer. I understand from googling that what I have to do is unregister all these .dll thingies using regsvr32, but I can't get that to work. It keeps telling me the module is not found.

Any ideas? If I delete them just out of Explorer or whatever, they just come back.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Click on Run and type in regedit. When that program starts go to Find and type in Runonce and press okay. When it brings up the first instance, go up one to Run and have a look for any entries relating to the spyware, adware, malware, whatever and delete it. Then look in Runonce and do the same if any of the malicious programs are in there. Once you're satisfied you've got all, press F3 and let the search continue. When you've done all of it, look in Start Menu/Startup and make sure there is nothing in there that shouldn't be there. Once you've done all that, reboot and your system should restart with none of the malicious software loaded. You should then be able to uninstall/delete all of them.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

If you're using IE, empty the cache, then check the Temporary Internet cache directory. Once you've ensured they are empty, delete all links to IE, download Firefox, or Opera and set one of them as your primary browser and never use IE again.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

If this sounds harsh, good.

Anyone who uses IE is a damn fool. Irrespective of whether they use Avant or GreenBrowser on top of IE.

The problem with and danger of, IE is that the cache stores all files with their REAL file names and URLs intact. It is solely b/c of this that malicious software can take over your computer. The cache in both Opera and Firefox, convert all files to a random numeric or alpha-numeric naming system. The browser knows what is what but no external programs know what file is what, so malicious files can't be run without your knowledge or permission.

Hey. New board.

So, yeah. this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Video quality is becoming quite amazing these days, huh?

If you don't have a recent (G5) Mac with Quicktime 7 on it, you won't be able to view those. If you do have a recent Mac with Quicktime 7 on it, you may be terribly sad that everything in the world isn't that high res. Interestingly, the downloadables 1080p versions (links to the right of each screen, even bigger files than the default versions) actually cause my dual-1.8 GHz G5 to stutter on playback. Though I suppose they might not if I weren't building things in the background. Since the slightly smaller ones have the same horizontal resolution as my monitor, though, I'm pretty satisfied with those.

ETA: It looks like the latest version of mplayer can play these quicktime movies. Somebody on a windows box with a technical bent should see if the Windows port can play them. I recommend testing with the Serenity Trailer, because, awesome.

ETA2: Turns out, my Dual-1.8 GHz G5 with 64 MB Geforce FX 5200 is below recommended system for playing back the 1080p files (the recommend a dual-2.0 with 128 MB VRAM). Wow. I really didn't think this system was going to be below recommended requirements for anything, ever.

If I could play back the 1080p stuff with no stuttering by only upgrading the video card, I might do it. Wonder if I could find a way to test that...

Either way, tempted to make 1920x844 screencaps of the Serenity trailer.
