hip deep in pie

I'm looking for any recommendations for a Visual Basic book for me. I'm a fairly skilled user of database software, like Access and Filemaker. But I'm getting to the point that when I want to tweak my databases, I know there's some programming I could probably do to get the damn thing to do what I want but I jsut don't know the commands. Any suggestions?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

That link just completely fucked over my Firefox installation. I don't know what it did, but I got a nasty error message, and now Firefox won't start because it say my default profile is in use, despite the fact that the program isn't running.

That's strange, it worked fine for me. (Firefox 1.0.3, Win2000)

I look more rad than Lutheranism

It won't run on Mozilla, either (at least, not my version of Mozilla, which, ironically, is an independent build to run on OS 9.x, since that's what my cheap-ass company is still running).

However, it didn't fuck up my Mozilla, for which I'm grateful.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Firefox won't start because it say my default profile is in use, despite the fact that the program isn't running.

You might need to reboot to get around this problem.

Yeah, I'm going to try that, but I'm in the middle of something else that I don't want to quit and restart. I'll just use Mozilla for the nonce.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Did you check to see if anything firefoxy was still in the task manager? You could try ending a suspicious process if you spot something.

There's nothing obvious in task manager.

I'm assuming that there's some video capture thing that needs to be bought

The easiest might be finding a friend with a DV video camera that you can borrow. You can dub the commerical to the camera (using a cable that comes with the camera, usually) and then connect the camera to the Mac and upload it to iMovie.

If that doesn't work, there are dedicated video capture devices that use Firewire to connect, but they are usually $200 or more.
