Ok. It appears to be working again. I cleared stuff and rebooted again. We'll see if it sticks.
Thanks!

Beam your craigslist ad into space
WHAT: craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster won an eBay auction for the first private communication transmission light years into deep space, with the idea of offering this opportunity to craigslist users.
HOW: The friendly folks at Deep Space Communications Network (DSCN) will beam the postings trillions of miles into space using redundant klystron transmitters and a satellite dish.
another ipod question. i'm plugging it in to my work computer(which i've done before), but iTunes doesn't seem to recognize my ipod. it's recognizing that something is plugging in, but it has it listed as "SYS" and there is absolutely no music listed under it. i've ejected and reconnected several times. restarted iTunes a few times and even completely rebooted my computer.
my ipod is fine. all the music i had dled is still there. any ideas?
I need to reformat a 200GB internal hard drive on my WinXP Home box from NTFS to FAT32 (I've backed up the files onto another HD). When I go into the disk management utility, it only gives me the option to reformat as NTFS.
Any suggestions?
Boot the computer using a Win98 start up disk, and use fdisk and format to format the disk.
Of course, I don't know if that'll work on a 200 GB drive without an outside formatting utility, which you can probably download from the manufacturer's website.
Norton seems to think that my Tivo is dangerous, as it keeps popping up Internet Worm Protection alert windows every time the Tivo wants something (which is pretty often while it's updating). I've checked Norton's "allow" list, and Tivo Beacon is on there. What am I missing? Why won't it just let the Tivo alone?
Is it set to allow every time? It plays nicely with mine.
It's set to "Permit All." And it was working fine until this morning -- I can't for the life of me figure out what's changed.
It wasn't connecting at all today, so I restarted the system, and now it's working, except that Norton suddenly thinks it's a worm, and is faithfully warning me every time it tries to connect.
[eta: Huh. Tivo Desktop can't find any DVRs. That's unsettling.]
Jon, I might also suggest Partition Magic as a third-party utility to wipe the drive.
