We have PCs. So Audacity should work?
I've got it on 40 or so PCs at work, and it works fine. Just be sure to get the LAME library if you want to export mp3's -- the link should be somewhere pretty upfront on the Audacity page.
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

I just upgraded from IE5.5 (which worked fine) to IE6.0
My first question would be why. IJS.
You may have accidentally downloaded something nasty. Take a look at your task manager and look for any processes which are taking up a lot of CPU or memory. Post a screenshot if you're unsure what to look for.
Also run Startup Control Panel to see what's being loaded when you boot up. Does anything look suspicious?
I'm working on an Access database of a ceramics collection. I want to insert a small image of each piece into a form, so that it can be seen with the full catalogue record. However, I've been having trouble getting the OLE object to insert itself as an image, not a package. I've tried inserted it as both an embedded object, and a link. I've tried different file associations for the image files. I'm lost and ready to admit defeat. Does anyone have any suggestsions? I'm running Access 2003 on XP.
Sue, the only way I could get it to work on Access 2000 (on my XP Home machine) was to drag an actual graphics image to the control on the form. Everything else I tried resulted in it comming in as a package. Even dragging in a thumbnail of the picture doesn't work - it has to be the actual image (both the Windows preview and from Mozilla worked for me).
If this isn't what you need, I can send you some VB code that will do it, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow for that.
grommit, "why" is exactly what I'm asking myself now. Basically, because a tech support person told me I should.
I don't have a Task Manager. According to some site I just Googled up, I'm supposed to be able to get it by right-clicking on the toolbar or by doing Ctrl+Alt+Del and clicking on Task Manager. But it doesn't show up when I do either of those things.
I don't think I have a Startup Control Panel either. I hate to be a pain, but I'm actually close to tears over this damned thing. I just paid $280 to have my computer upgraded, and now it doesn't work, and I can't figurte out what's wrong.
First of all, Zenkitty, I have Win2K (Professional), and I'm running IE6, so it should work fine. No need to jump to XP if you don't want to.
What happens when you hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete? The fact that you don't have a Task Manager is kind of worrying. Did you ever use it before the upgrade?
Also, what programs are listed when you go to Programs -> Startup?
Also, {{Zenkitty}}. I very much understand being near tears due to computer problems. It's stressful.

You need to download and run it from the link I provided
The other way to bring up the task manager is to select "Run" from your Start menu and type in "taskmgr". If that doesn't work, backup your data ASAP.
Tommyrot, I did try the drag and drop, still no luck. My partner in the project got it to work at home by reconfiguring Microsoft Photo Editor t run from her computer. My version of Office 2003 has Microsoft Office Picture Manager instead. I tried that fix, and still no love.
So if you could wing some code my way, I would be forever greatful.
grommit, I guess that explains why I didn't have it, huh?! I would've probably realized that if I hadn't been a tad overwrought... At this point, though, I'm honestly afraid to download anything.
P.-C., thanks for the {}. I feel better now!
Okay. Ctrl+Alt+Del says Close Program at the top and gives me a list of what's running and the option to End Task, Shut Down, or Cancel. Currently: the web page I'm on, Explorer, Ctfmon, Sk9910dm, Ccapp, Systray, Wuauclt, Winmgmt, Hidserv, and Mdm.
Programs -> Startup says Microsoft Office, which I didn't think I was running, and nothing else. Hm.
Programs -> Startup says Microsoft Office
Doesn't mean you are running it (you aren't), just that is the last program that was launched from that prompt. It's okay, ignore it for now.
Zenkitty - are you sure you're running Windows 2000? Your task manager window should have three tabs like the screenshot I linked earlier. The tab I'm interested in is "Processes".
As for the startup control panel. it's a safe download. It will also make diagnosis a lot easier.
