Cell phone backlash leads to sales of cell phone jammers:
[link]
Unsuspecting cellphone users may find themselves saying that more often now that cellphone jammers — illegal gizmos that interfere with signals and cut off reception — are selling like hotcakes on the streets of New York.
"I bought one online, and I love it," said one jammer owner fed up with the din of dumb conversations and rock-and-roll ringtones.
"I use it on the bus all the time. I always zap the idiots who discuss what they want from the Chinese restaurant so that everyone can hear them. Why is that necessary?"
eta:
"One time I followed this guy around for 20 minutes," he said. "I kept zapping him and zapping him, until finally he threw the phone on the floor. I couldn't stop laughing. It was so cool."
OK, a correcton to the MacSlash story:
[Update by Trollaxor]: Sorry, folks, but as you've noted there is no 40 GB iPod offered at all anymore. It looks like Apple's filling the gap with the 30 GB iPod photo. You lose 10 GB of capacity but get a color screen.
Also look out for new iPod software in the Software Update control panel.
Making direct links to the Apple store is problematic, but if you go to the apple store, there's a "special deals" link on the right-hand side. Right now, they have 40GB iPods listed with a closeout price of $379
Looks like prices have dropped significantly. The 60GB photo iPod was $599, but is now only $449.
[Update by Trollaxor]: Sorry, folks, but as you've noted there is no 40 GB iPod offered at all anymore.
So my 40GB iPod is now a collector's item? Huh.
There's a $50 gap between the 20 GB iPod and the 30 GB iPod photo. You get a color screen AND 10 extra GB. for an extra 0.2 ounces and 0.06 inches of thickness.
Why would I get a normal iPod anymore?
Crap. There's a new iPod software updater, and it's totally frelled my iPod. I plug it in and get the "do not disconnect" message on the iPod, but nothing at all happens on the computer.
It's a 40 Gig iPod - the one before the click-wheel version. The iPod software updater is 2005-02-22.
News on the DSL thingie: the rebate from Best Buy that I mentioned above? Only good if you sign up for DSL (with MSN) thru them. However, you DO apparantly also get a $75 gift card.
As even further incentive to buy Qwest DSL service and modems, Best Buy and Actiontec are offering modem rebates through April 30. Customers can receive a $65 rebate if they activate Qwest Choice DSL with MSN Premium or Qwest Choice DSL Deluxe with MSN Premium at Best Buy at the same time they buy their modem. Plus, they receive a $5 rebate just for purchasing the modem from Best Buy. Together, the rebates essentially make the modems free to customers. What's more, Best Buy is offering a $75 gift card with the purchase of any DSL service (regardless of provider) through Feb. 26 ($50 gift card between Feb. 27 and March 26). So, if you know someone who's considering signing up for high-speed Internet service, now's the time!
Ok...I just set up a goofy webpage for myself at geocities. Will I be able to put a PDF document up on a page there? How do I go about doing that? I used to be a little more literate in webpage development, but it's all gone out the window.
Reason I'm doing this? I want to post my paper so people can read it.
