Jeez, don't get all Movie of the Week. I was just too cheap to buy you a real present.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm bracing myself for a PDA replacement.

Both my Clies have had pretty short lifespans, shorter, I'm finding, than Palms. But they were cheaper.

So I'm assuming, with market shift, that I'll pay more, but it should be for something I can see owning for more than 18 months. Which is scarily like commitment.

That having been said, I found I liked the look of the Tungsten T3, decided I can stomach the list price, and then froogled. Some really tempting prices, but the places that used to sell it for cheap no longer seem to be offering it.

How old are each of the Tungstens? I mean, which are the most recently released models? If I can get either the C or the T5 for the list price of a T3 -- I'm thinking the newer one is better. Do I need WiFi and a keyboard over the bigger screen? Hard to tell. Recency will help.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Are you considering a combined PDA/cell phone? It's part that "convergence" thing that the kids are into.

Have you considered a Treo?

Not currently. My camera converged with my phone already, and I'm still reeling. I love my teeny phone, and often travel with it and not the PDA. And I don't want to compromise screen or data entry space on a PDA to fill my need for mini-phone.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

It's part that "convergence" thing that the kids are into.

Also part of that "I'm sitting in a cafe/bar/laundromat/short-term holding cell posting to b.org, aifg" thing, from what I understand.

Which is kinda parta why the idea of the Tungsten C and WiFi is a bit appealing, though, more for e-mail than for b.org.

I can live with only sending e-mail at hotspots, since I can check it from my phone already.

It sounds like you need the tiny keyboard, then.

Need is such a strange word to apply to all this. It makes me feel guilty. Because I also need the massive memory of the T5, and the larger screen. I could go either way. But if I'm going to have it for three or four years (how weird), I want the one that's least likely to be obsolete as soon as UPS delivers it to my door (which is what happened with my Clies).

If I only had a brain...

I bought two used Palm Vs within six months. Not buying used Palms again; the digitizer seems to be one of the first things that goes.

In the future, we will have evolved tiny little fingers for the tiny keyboards. Unless we have PDAs that can read minds by then. Or cyborg monkeys to do our wireless communicating for us.
