That's the one I've got. No problems so far.
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

thank you, thegrommit, and NoiseDesign, i will check that all out. thanks also to bicyclops for giving a positive review. that makes me feel a bit better.
also, thegrommit, that is a brilliant way to do that and i think way cheaper. i hadnt thought of doing that. cool.
I've owned a Maxtor 5000XT (250 GB) for about 1.5 years and haven't had any trouble with it at all. I just do simple file copying from my laptop to the external, though, so I haven't put it through the paces of performing backups and the like.
so you have not done a big backup? i had read that the software was stupid...okay they didnt say stupid but i am translating. *g* it did not get good reviews at PCMag. i know you told me about this HD before, but i have been really doing research. maybe too much research...
i just dont want to lose my files.
i want the best of it all. i want easy/good software for the backups and i want a HD that will not die on me.
have almost decided on the Iomega HD b/c the software is the higher rated one out of the ones they reviewed. dont care that it cant stand on its side but has to be flat. whatever. space on the stand is not an issue. not sure that i NEED a super fast one either.
gah! i just wish it was easier to decide...thanks Hiddensky for adding your thoughts, again on this.
so you just copy the file/s one at a time? or what? i guess i wouldnt have to do a complete backup if all i am doing is saving my vid files. hmmm...thinking.

And there are concerns about the changing face of the Mac tribe: Hordes of new iPod users may be sullying the Mac experience.
...
"But the show's changed. Apple is entering the mainstream. It started last year with the iPod, but you really feel it this year. It's attracting a larger group of users, and that's clearly its role as a business, but it's losing some of the magic."
Sounds like someone complaining that their favorite indie band was better before they sold out and got popular....
Koen Van Tongeren, a student at the University of Amsterdam who is writing a thesis on Mac fan culture, said he was disappointed by the lack of Apple haircuts and tattoos. Having traveled from the Netherlands, he expected his first Macworld to resemble a Trekkie convention, where everyone's in costume.
"It's just a regular convention," he said. "But I'm not so disappointed. I got a good deal on a battery."

That boat left the port a long, long time ago.

Just what I was thinking. I bought my Mac Plus in '86, I think it was.
The "nothing is any good" shirt is apropos for some of the complainers.
I mean, I thought Apple was supposed to be accessible to everyone, and adorable. Linux -- if they were Linux geeks I'd see their point.
