A new show called Penny Dreadful is being released mid-May on Showtime. Though I won't be able to see the show, I did see the first episode because Showtime has enough faith that if you see the first episode you will be hooked to have released it all over the internet, and also put it out for free on most On-demand packages.

It is glorious and wonderful trash. That is a compliment, not criticism. It is set in Victorian England, but not historical Victorian England. Hammer Films Victorian England. A Count is trying to rescue his daughter Mina, who has been kidnapped by vampires and turned into a vampire. We have not met the vampire yet, but not likely to be anyone but Dracula. Meantime, we have met Dorian Grey and Victor Frankenstein. While I'm sure we will see more and more characters from Victoria era Goth, this is no League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. This is not a "teamup". The character have their own stories, their own agendas that may lead to alliances or clashes. But the relationships are nothing so simple as division into teams. More like the way Kim Newman handled the Victoria era celebrities in his series - famous characters are nonetheless characters in a story not stick puppets on one side or another of a battle line. The writers are no Kim Newman, but in spite of flaws they do good work, and the actors are pitch perfect as is the pacing and direction.

Art Crawl!!!

GoT - involving something that happens in ASOIAF which they say isn't happening on the show: So, I'm thinking that despite what they're saying it's totally possible to have Lady Stoneheart without Michelle Fairly,

right???

Carver confirms what I thought about demon!Dean, and I like it when the writers focus on consequences:

Dean as a demon, how is that different from Dean just being possessed by a demon temporarily? What is he like?

Dean is not possessed by anything. It's his own soul that's been twisted into a demon soul, so this demon is not anyone other than Dean. So every thought, every action, that's Dean, as opposed to some other demon possessing him. So while he's a demon, that causes some complication of thought in him in that, "This is really me doing it." It also motivates a certain bravado. "Yeah, this is me doing and owning it!" There's a real period for Dean of deciding how dark he's going to be and what kind of demon he's going to be, because he can't blame it on anyone else but himself. And then afterwards is when it will have the most effect on him because it was him. It was his actions that led him to becoming a demon. He pushed it with the Mark. He pushed Sammy away at the end of last season. He said, "I can do this by myself." So there's a certain consequence to all this that is almost more interesting to us than the actual demon part.
