Aw, Jengod! She should come back and post more often.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

JenGod has a review up too:

See, that tells me about the show itself, doesn't just gush that because OMGJOSSWHEDONMADEIT!!!1! it *must* be good.

Okay, plus, Jengod knows all.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

I think Jace's review says more about the actual show. Although, yes, gushes a bit more.

I do agree with the sentiment that Joss doesn't do no wrong. I mean, he wrote 'Family', which is a complete mess. And, like, Alien 4.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

And now that I've actually *read* the Televisionary article, it's lines like this that make me roll my eyes:

While I had extremely high expectations for Dollhouse (I always trust in the Joss), I was worried that, after all of the hype and hoopla, it wouldn't quite live up to my preconceived notions about the project. I am happy to say that not only were those expectations matched but they were exceeded.

I'm sure that the people who write this sort of thing believe it every time, but I remember when the first Firefly reviews were leaking out and it was the same formula over and over..."[gushy expression of Josslove], nevertheless [obligatory disclaimer re: rational level of hopefulness], but thankfully [OMGSQUEE! JOSS SHITS GOLD BRICKS!!!!]"

And then, you know, I still don't really trust Joss to do scifi in a way I find watchable. So there's that.

(OTOH, Faith + Helo may be more hotness than I'm able to resist even if I find the rest of it as annoying as I did Firefly. As long as there's no fake Western slang.)

same formula over and over...

You forgot the part where there's 3 introductory paragraphs that don't even talk about the content/structure of the show in lieu of swooning about Joss and all the hype surrounding anything he touches.

(To be fair, I also felt that TV's hit Drive was treated this way, too.)

As long as there's no fake Western slang.

And please God, a good theme song.

I don't think we have to call it TV's hit Drive any more. Last time I heard it mentioned it was called BitTorrent's hit Drive. By Tim.

Also with the please god, good theme song. Firefly and Drive's were awful.

HA! Clearly, Jessica never read my review of Firefly.

My friend read the Dollhouse pilot and thought it was good but not perfect. I'll be curious to see exactly what the show is like on a weekly basis.

Kristen, is your review still around? Was it for Serenity?

I doubt it. The site is long gone.
