Lost: OMGWTF POLAR BEAR

[NAFDA] This is where we talk about the show! Anything that's aired in the US (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though -- if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Surfing tv channels and stumbled across TVGude channel's Lost Closeup. The onscreen guide says an hour. It's old, from earlier in the season, but it's all new to me. Channel 224 on DTV.

Guy #1: Man, there are so many hipsters around. I hate hipsters! Guy #2: You're at the wrong place. That's like going to Vegas only to say "I hate titties!" --The Warsaw, Williamsburg (OINY)

OMG did anyone see Sommersby? The scene where Jodie Foster shaves Richard Gere with the straight razor was un-fucking-believably hot. I watched that on an airplane without the headphones and was all, "I can't believe they're allowed to show this - it's like porn." AND there was a very cute guy next to me. Oh yeah, and I was reading Vox. It's a wonder I didn't just burst into flames from teh hawt.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Probably just as well you didn't. I'm pretty sure people who burst into flames on airplanes get put on a special watch list.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I'm running off all my Losts from my Tivo to my dying iLo, and it's making me remember that I really like this show. It is a fun show.

However, it is also making me realize that I really don't like what they're doing with Charlie's characterization. I think it is inconsistent and weak, which is a shame, 'cause, good actor.

There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists.

However, it is also making me realize that I really don't like what they're doing with Charlie's characterization. I think it is inconsistent and weak, which is a shame, 'cause, good actor.

I don't find it inconsistent; it's pretty consistent as a portrait of someone who has some good impulses but is fundamentally weak and fairly self-centered. Someone who will often try to do the good thing (help around camp, et al.), but really can't be relied on because you don't know whether the good impulses or the self-centeredness are going to win out at any point.

My irritation is that Claire, a far more interesting character, at least going by her first appearnces, has basically been reduced to a tool to advance Charlie plotlines and characterization. Any moments of what appear to be independent thought on her part invariably turn out just be a platform for Charlie to override them. Claire decides to stay on the beach; it's all about Charlie getting her off the beach, not why Claire would want to stay. Claire gets mad and heads back to the beach; it's a platform for Charlie getting attacked, Charlie being traumatized, for episodes on end. Claire, we get about five minutes of her looking wiped out. Claire decides to let herself be bait to trap Ethan; it turns out to be all about Charlie getting his psuedomacho on by murdering Ethan. We don't get Claire being revolted by him; we don't even get Claire being pissed because she wanted some fucking answers. No, it's all 'Charlie! You're the bestest! What was I thinking, deciding something for myself.'

All is well that ends in pizza.

My problem is with Rose. It's like she's in every damn scene. Give the poor woman a break, guys.

Hee. I worry about Rose. Poor Rose. I'm sure she's fine.
