I guess we don't know how long their separation is going to last. It does seem to have been healthy for both of them though. Jin's getting involved now, and Sun's free to slut it up in any swimwear she wants. We're all winners.

Apparently, he's dumb enough to believe that the daughter of a wealthy Korean businessman speaks no English, so bad choices may come easily to him.
Based on my own experience in Korea, fluent English-speaking is pretty much limited to people who have to deal directly with diplomats and the international business community. It's not automatically assumed that everyone's taken it as a second language. Americans in restaurants and hotels do a lot of pointing.
We're all winners.
Well, except Michael. Who may have lost any chance with Sun now that he's revealed he's violent and quick to leap to judgement—two qualities that women fleeing from their Mafia Wife lives probably don't have on the checklist for prospective new boyfriends. Plus, his firebug kid burned up his boat.
At the end, did anyone else get a vibe of Sun walking into the ocean and not coming back out? When I first saw her at the edge of the water at sunset, I was thinking that was what she was planning.
What I'm wondering is why people would have been eager to be the ones leaving on Michael's boat in the first place. My attitude would be: there's a good chance of it turning out like Gerricault's Raft of the Medusa , if it does work they'll be sending back rescuers anyway, and my odds of survival are better among 40 other castaways on dry land with abundant drinking water and only occasional attacks by large predators. Bon voyage!

She was the daughter of a wealthy Korean businessman when they met, and she spoke no English then. How dumb would that belief be, when correct?

Why do we think that is true? If it is, then I have misjudged Jin. Insteawd, it is the writers who are dumb. It is possible that she wouldn't be fluent, although her international businessman father probably would have seen to it that she was, but the idea that an educated and prosperous young Korean would understand no more English than what Sun showed publicly on the island seems absurd to me. I don't think it's realistic.
Why do we think that is true?
Because they showed that she learnt it in order to be able to escape him.

So you think she was lying to him from the start?

Ok. Sorry Jin. Not the first time I've blamed a character for his creator's mistakes. I much prefer a not-dumb Jin.
