If the picture theory is true, why is he able to think of the numbers he needs for the dice and have them come up? Couldn't he just think of his dog in the first two eps (i.e. why would Locke have to make a whistle if Walt could think of Vincent and have him appear)?

Maybe he doesn't know he has the power to manifest his visions. Maybe that's what Locke recognised in him and wants to foster. Maybe the pictures are the shortcut he's learned to use.
Huh. Seems like Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan really are a couple after all.
How long do you give it until the less-sane LoTRips people have a hate community up for her?

Awww. I think they would be so very cute as a couple.
Read the article and didn't find the comments bad. They probably would be better with facial expressions.
The bird that smashed into the window--Walt was looking at a picture of a bird. The same kind of bird?
Walt said he was doing his project on the bronze cuckoo, which doesn't look anything like the bird that hit the window. For what it's worth. It's possible the writers don't know what a bronze cuckoo looks like.
I think it was implied, if not stated outright, that it was the same bird. I don't have the ep anymore so I can't go check.
It was at least implied. Maybe it was supposed to be. But bronze cuckoos are little and brown, and the dead brd was big and black with red wingtips. Whatever. But they should've known there was going to be at least one geek like me who immediately looked up "bronze cuckoo" and said, "Hey!..."

You say that as if it didn't already spring up within ten minutes of the rumors first breaking.
I've been thinking about this "backlash" thing. My understanding of why the castaways weren't looking for Claire is because I believe Jack and Kate think that looking for Claire is what got Charlie nearly permanently dead.
So in my view, it would be difficult to look for Claire without endangering the other 45.
I thought it was pretty powerful how they wrote in Charlie's reaction to Claire missing. To me that was indicative that folks were still thinking about her.
As a viewer of "American Idol", these first few eps were bullshit and not very engaging (worse than usual). If people missed "Special" though, they missed one of the better "Lost" eps.
BTW, Claire told Charlie that the other castaways were looking at her with apprehension because she was pregnant and they all knew this would be some kind of complication. So the lack of others talking about her could also be an indication that there is some relief that she's missing...however horrible that may be.
