Liese,
how are the survivors watches working? Have we seen anyone look at their watch? If so...then the problem is with the compass not a magnetic field.
However, Sayid and company did find that something was broadcasting a message on a loop. I can't imagine that broadcast would interfere with a compass.
Why is Sayid such a fucking moron?
t protective of The Sayid
Hey now!
I think Sayid is trying to continue clinging to the science he knows. It's a coping machanism. He's is full scale denial about the voices in the woods, and has rationalized a lot. He did mention that it was a miracle that they survived, but other than that, he's all scientific business

Remember, Locke is the one person that clearly does not want to be rescued. He doesn't want to go back to the life he had. Why would he? He's got the fantasy life he craved back in the ol' box factory.
The others may be gradually becoming reconciled to life on the island to various degrees, but I don't think any of them show signs of not wanting to be rescued if the opportunity arose.
Any way Locke can find to upset plans for rescue, expect him to use. Ruthlessly.
Hey now!
Hee hee. You sound like me kicking my friend who was expressing glee at Shannon's possible death.

Well, I didn't like the delivery. It sounded too much like that was the only conclusion he had come to. I guess he has somehow blocked out regular logic from his mind.

I wonder though- can't he hang there by himself if the others get rescued? Why sabatoge other people getting what they want?

Hey, the man doesn't want to be
lonely.

Well, I don't listen to what Sayid *says*, or actually *how* he says it, as I'm generally too busy looking longingly and thinking, "ooh, pretty..."
t runs away before Lee comes in and kicks my ass
Hey, the man doesn't want to be lonely.
The dude is all about being a loner! But, there's an additional motivation, which I think is required. Not wanting to be alone, wanting power over the group, the fear that rescuers would ruin the island mojo, etc.

Hard to be the admired leader of your flock if there are no sheep.

This, and he's respected, and a provider. Pretty much the polar opposite of how he was viewed in his previous life.
