I keep adding to my reading list after each new episode of this show -- I've ordered Stephen King's Four Past Midnight (for "The Langoliers") and now I need to read Watership Down and King's The Regulators, too. I've read The Stand and Lord of the Flies already.
I want to know what Kate did, and it better be something actually bad. Right now she's too good to be true -- acting as "the law" on the island, saving the rancher who turned her in, putting an oxygen mask on the marshal -- and it's getting kind of boring. I do like that Jack sort of twisted her volunteering to help with every "mission" around to make it a potentially negative thing, though, by pointing out she has trouble staying in one place for long.
What do you think the signifigance of Locke's first name being John is? I expect it's more than just a joke, considering we had an episode named after John Locke's "tabula rasa." We also learned Jack's last name is Shepherd, which is interesting as he's becoming a leader. I want to know everyone else's last (or perhaps first, in the case of Hurley and Sawyer) names now.

I don't think it's going to be that tough.... They've been averaging a day an episode, which means at the end of the season, they will only have been on the island 22 days. Less than a month, or even a stint on Survivor.
Plenty of room for multiple seasons.
Well, it's brownish, which makes me think it's heroin.
Yeah, that's supposed to be heroin, not coke. Coke is white, herion can come in a couple of different colors, one of them brown. And heroin can easily be sniffed -- shooting up is only one way to do smack.
Plus, when you snort a bunch of coke, lying back in the sand while your eyes roll back in your head is not the first reaction you have.
It looks more like I would imagine crack looks.
Crack is also white, like coke, it just comes in little rocks.
No, I did not come by most of this knowledge first-hand. I just like being a knowledge storehouse about street drugs.
And I agree completely that there's some sort of wish-fulfillment going on on the island.
I don't think they're dead (though I haven't seen this week's episode yet, that comes tonight)
With the names, I'm thinking, is it possible that the island created one or more of the people?

I don't think it really does. Apparently it's about a little boy who can make things happen by imagining them, and someone suggested that's what Walt's doing on the island. It just sounded interesting, so I added it to my list.
I thought smack was another name for heroine.
Not much drug knowledge past pot & dropping acid once on a Sunday, obviously. But I agree that Charlie's monkey is of the heroine persuasion.
