I have the explanation for the island.
It's the island from The Incredibles!
Think about it.
[NAFDA] This is where we talk about the show! Anything that's aired in the US (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though -- if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

He he. Someone on TWoP had that idea as well. He/she suggested the monster was an Omnidroid.
It's the island from The Incredibles!
Well, of course! (Because, see, the monster in The Incredibles was a giant Stitch robot, and Lilo & Stitch takes place in Hawaii, which is where Lost is shot! Everything's connected.)
Aw! The invisimechasaur is just looking for some love and understanding! Maybe he should take out a personal.
And I'd like Locke to die.
NO ONE KILLS MY CREEPY O'QUINN!
I just want to hear Walt say, "It's OK! My dog has a chainsaw! "
Just once. That's all I'm asking.
Ahahahahaha. I loved that line so goddamn much.
(Though I have to be anal and correct it to "found" )
My other favorite line was the line from the trailer which convinced me it might be worth watching. The nonchalant delivery of "Aliens are attacking my house" was just awesome. Then there was the Picasso joke.
I watched Donnie Darko this weekend for the first time... My current speculation on the Lost island is that it's in a parallel universe. IJS
"But what's wrong with people playing across Asian races when that's okay across European races?"
Yeah. I was watching a '30s Fu Manchu serial (don't all hit me at once), and a supposedly-Chinese character showed up and I said, "Wait, isn't that guy Japanese?" and my husband said "Don't knock it; he's the first actual Asian in the cast!" Which was true. Everybody else was European in really, really bad eyemakeup.
During WWII Life did this horrible article on "How to tell the Japs from the Chinese".
Chinese wear rational calm of tolerant realists. Japs, like General Tojo, show humorless intensity of ruthless mystics.

Which connects back to Lilo & Stitch through Daveigh Chase.
It really is all connected.
Work Spirited Away in somehow for the hat trick.
