I would expect someone to at least mention that the caves are closer to what appears to be the monster's habitat.
This was bugging me too. At the beach, they have seafood and shelter (from the plane). They have visibility, which seems to be their best protection at this point. And it seems like any water would have to come to the coast at some point. I would be more inclined to explore the coastline than to move inland. Of course, I'm a coastie in the US, so perhaps I'm biased.
Also, this is getting eerie, Zenkitty. I begin to think we are the same person.

So, you're saying the folks who stayed on the beach are the blue staters, and the folks in the cave are the reds?
Let's just call it Purple Island.
Oh, yes. The plane is a MacGyver playground.
I'm finally caught up on Lost. Despite the incredible acting by DM and TO'Q, I hated the moth anvil, especially at the end. Maybe M.E. shows have soured me, but I fully expected Charlie to do something deliciously evil after Locke's whole smarmy "I'm proud of you son."
Other than that, this show is damn addictive.

All y'all moth anvil haters have no magic in your hearts.

Dude.
I love the miracle snow in "Amends."
I keep telling Sayid to go get some stuff from the damn cockpit. You could rig up a generator by winding wire and magnets, You could scrape solder off connections and circuit boards, hell, you might even find a hand-crank radio in there.
But noooo...
Hell, he was whining about not having a soldering iron, and yet doesn't want to think long term.
And so what if winding wire is boring? It's not like you are going anywhere...
I think one of the reasons for the move to the caves is that the producers can use an indoor sound stage and make it easier on the production team and actors.
Okay, there I go being practical again. But even with the good Hawaiian weather, it has to be a chore to film so much outdoors.
As someone who has spent 16 hour days shooting exteriors in the sun, I can personally tell you that the most lush paradise on Earth does not do much to mitigate sunburn or sunstroke.
