Mal: You want to tell me how come there's a statue of you here looking at me like I owe him something? Jayne: Wishing I could, Captain.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Sawyer is only presumably on the side of evil. We need backstory to even begin to make parallels to Spike. I liked Spike, the whole reformed bad boy thing.

I think Sawyer is still too much of a cipher to put the Spike label on him yet.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

It was nice to see the extras being used as people. Scott and Steve, and that girl Shannon was talking to. Maybe we'll get their stories someday.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I woke up just in time to hear "I'm a rock god!" Did I miss anything major before that?

So you missed the threeway with Sayid, Sawyer and Jack? What a shame.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

What has he done, though, that would mark him as a trickster?

If he's going for the long term fake-out, we wouldn't see him as a trickster, yet. But, Loki is characterized by the following:

1) He's an instigator of conflict, but he usually resolves it himself

2) He transgresses boundaries, he's a shapeshifter

3) He's a provider; he provided Odin with his spear, Thor with his hammer and Frey with the golden boar. He also provided humanity with the net (Lokke in Swedish means spider.)

As a provider we've seen Locke bring in boar, and we saw him use a net earlier tonight. As someone who was paralyzed and now walks, he is, in a manner of speaking, a shapeshifter. He instigated confict with Charlie today by refusing to return the smack. He doesn't really belong to either of the 2 factions on the island, just as Loki often found himself siding with either the gods or the giants, depending on which provided more benefit to him. It's function #2 that Locke exhibits the most. He is external to the system, yet essential to it's function. He is the mediator between the inside and the outside, the cocoon and the moth.

We thought he turned into the moth.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Jack is happily asexual. I'm not getting a read off him with anybody--Kate, Boone, Shannon, Hurley, Charlie, Sawyer, Sun, or Sayid.

ITA. I like Jack well enough and can objectively see that Matthew Fox is an attractive man, but he has zero sexual/romantic chemistry with anybody on the island. It'd be interesting if the writers made him gay, but 1) I really don't see ABC going there with their leading man, at least not in this day and age, and 2) he doesn't even vibe with any of the supremely hot dudes on the island.

Kate'n'Jack bores me. For potential het pairing, I'm more interested in Charlie/Claire, or even Sun/Michael.

Ah, Vonnie. You know the drill.

Heh. This is the part where we're sharing the brain, right?

Actually, 'operating on half a brain' would explain a bunch of stuff that's been going around in my life recently...

Sure I went over to the Dark Side, but just to pick up a few things.

And I'm wee bit uncertain as to why Charlie suddenly went from "You're a junkie and you're ruininig our band!" to "Drugs! Oh, well, I'll try it, I guess."

Charlie loves the music he's written. I thought that by doing the drugs his brother was, he wouldn't care about his choices (in other words, a road to hell) with the women and the lifestyle, but he would still have his brother and his band.

It just occured to me that this episode has some very religious undertones. Charlie had to ask for the drugs three times (Peter denies Christ three times) and the moth comes out of its coccoon stronger (Christ rising from the dead to offer salvation). When Charlie throws the smack into the fire at the end, he is essentially giving up his old life (sinful life void of Christ) and is starting the new (accepting Christ in your heart).
