"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Mordred is the son of Arthur and his half-sister Morgause.

That's right. And it was Morgan Le Fay, not Viviane.

I've got to reread some Malory soon.

Morgan Le Fay became conflated with her sister Morgause in later retellings.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks the Weasleys are a bunch of self-righteous nags, then. No, wait, that's Hermione. I think the twins are a pair of bullies, Ron has jealousy issues out the ears, and Ginny is going to make Harry's life hell with nagging.

Luna I adore. For all she's nuts, she has self-respect enough to respect other people.

I give JK full points for showing how teenagers can be such utter jerks, which is kind of nifty in YA writing. It's the theme I'ved enjoyed most in the books, that even people you dislike can have the same worthy goals as you.

Why do oyu think Ginny will be a nag? She seems like a smart cookie to me. I also thought Rowling did a good job of showing how teens can be horrible, but also show you what their adult selves will be like. Ron has insecurity, but also loyalty and humor and we see him learning to master his anger and develop more empathy. I htink he will be a nice man--not as smart as his wife, but full of admiration for how smart she is.

Maybe it's just being a a teenager, but I've rarely seen anyone grow out of being self-absorbed. She irks me.

Punishingly Intricate

I just love the Weasley's to pieces. They were, hands down, my favorite part of the whole series. Maybe in part because they reminded me of my mom's family a bit (who I grew up in the middle of, my mom is the oldest of 7 and my younger uncle is only 7 years older than me).

Me too. They seem like a very real, well-drawn family.

My complaint about Ginny is than she's never really more that a romantic foil for Harry. She's one of the more one-dimensional characters in the books.

But ALL teenagers are self-absorbed. I say this with all love for them as a former teacher, but, they are all off in their own universes for a while.

One of my favorite Ginny moments was when she and Harry had their little talk over Easter Eggs in the library in OotP. She drew him out about his brooding over Sirius and then offered to help him--that didn't strike me as self-absorbed.
