The graphic design traditions of different countries fascinate me. It's one reason I collect stamps, and many of Japan's stamps are so damned dull for a country with such gorgeous paintings.

The Buffista Book Club: the Harry Potter iteration
This thread is a focused discussion group. Please see the first post below for the current topic and upcoming book discussions. While natter will inevitably happen, we encourage you to treat this like a virtual book club and try to keep your posts in that spirit.
By consensus, this thread is reopened specifically to discuss Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It will be closed again once that discussion has run its course.
***SPOILER ALERT***
The Ron on the French covers cracks me up. He looks so...French. All cheekboney and stuff. Doesn't look like Ron at all in my mind! (Harry, somehow still looks fairly OK to me, and Hermoine, though different, didn't make me laugh quite so much as Ron)
I'm reading a really good post-DH fic about Teddy Lupin's first year at Hogwarts, and the author just finished the end of the latest chapter at the boat dock at the school, with Teddy realizing for the first time how few students there are in his year (only fifteen), and the pureblood snooty girl asking him as if to say "well, duh..." "How many halfbloods do you think actually survived the year we were born?"
Something I didn't really think about until the author pointed it out--the off-screen deathcount in DH has got to be pretty high.
The German titles totally rule. The covers, not so much.
Oh, that's a beautiful small (sad and eerie) detail.
Kathy, link please?
Lisah, it's at Fernwithy's LJ, "Teddy Lupin and the Forest Guard" (she's leaving the character's name off for another week to guard against spoilers above the fold).
Thanks!
I didn't realize there were adult versions of the books. Are there more wand innuendos?
