The Buffista Book Club: the Harry Potter iteration

This thread is a focused discussion group. Please see the first post below for the current topic and upcoming book discussions. While natter will inevitably happen, we encourage you to treat this like a virtual book club and try to keep your posts in that spirit.

By consensus, this thread is reopened specifically to discuss Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It will be closed again once that discussion has run its course.

Yes, I completely agree with you! Interesting. I wonder what they would do instead.

It wasn't until I reread the last few chapters last night that it sunk in for me why Voldemort was unable to kill or enact lasting spells on any of the good guys after Harry "died." Harry's act of sacrifice, even though it wasn't the ultimate one, gave the same protection to his friends that his mother's sacrifice did for him.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Kathy - do you have access to The Bedchamber over at Checkmated.com?

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Heh. There were a bunch of news stories about how some rabbis in Israel were upset that the release was on a Saturday, thus leading a bunch of stores that normally close on the Sabbath to remain open. One of the Jewish blogs gave a sample of headlines for these stories (Reuters: "Harry Potter's Israel launch pits wizard vs. rabbis." CNN: "Will Harry Potter's magic work in Israel?" PressTV Iran: "Harry Potter angers Zionist regime.") and is having a contest for "Come on, we can think of funnier headlines than that." [link]

Yeah. I registered for it, but no approval yet and I want to read Chapter 11.5 of Midnight Confessions.

Heh.

I like that adult-rated fanfic site because they really don't have any (or at least, very little) slashfic, but their adult fanfic is usually pretty well-written for all that it is pervy.

My friend Tami bought her book on Saturday, but is trying to stretch it out. She started it on the train into work this morning, called me with her opinion so far (the Death Eaters had just showed up to ambush the multiple Harrys), and said she'd read some more at lunchtime. She just called me to mourn over the loss of Hedwig and Mad-Eye, and I told her that the death and destruction was just beginning. She'll be calling me back tomorrow morning with more opinion. A delayed read-n-post is always fun!
