Ah, that's a nice scene. Too bad it had to go. (heh, fun with formatting)
The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
Wow, thanks, AmyLiz.
(the above is what I get for trying to cut and paste from my script program right into the board)
Girl was a math major at some expensive uni.
Damn, I got myself married too soon.
I liked the way RN used her eyes, avoiding looking directly at others, Web especially.
Tim, that's pretty much what I was looking for, and almost exactly what I figured Web's reaction would be. Cool.
I also laughed out loud at, "You think I'm scary?"
Hee. Yeah. The one-liners came without warning, it was interesting. It's not like they were thrown at you as punchlines, laugh! They kind of take a beat to make you realize they were jokes, because the rest of the show is so down and dirty.
It'll be interesting to see what Mel and Danny's deals are.
I like how we got to know who they were completely through their dialogue and actions. Danny's kind of brusque and I don't know why the word impulsive is coming to mind, maybe just cause it sounds good with brusque. And Mel kind of feels like a foil, from the suicide discussion.
There were some bits of dialogue, though, that made me kind of go...what? I've come to expect better than this. Things that just sounded a little overwrought, that belied the quality of the show. One friend of mine caught the line "She has a gift...born in pain" in a trailer and wanted to write the show off. A lot of Rebecca's dialogue felt unnatural in places; it felt like pointing out the killer's psyche rather than her working through it herself. This could be a byproduct of the fact that she's just that good. It wasn't pervasive, but every time it popped up, I got worried.
But there are all these identity issues ahead, what with our past defining who we are and whatnot, so I'm looking forward to all that.
That was fun. I applauded for Allyson. Hee.
I'm really liking Paul
Per my usual gift, I think he needs to shut up. Though the actor reminds me of Adrian Pasdar in some shots.
Does anyone know if TWOP is recapping this?
We're not. Tim's been paroled.
Matt, don't blame Adam and Katie, for the first few eps I felt it was key to hammer home the central relationship of the show, which is a triangle. So Adam and Katie twist a little bit.
I feel kind of conflicted about this. I like it, or well, most of it. I don't like Web and not in the love to hate him but in the die die die get rid of him way.
Granted it's one episode, but that's my gut reaction.
I'll definitly watch again, but, I'm not 100% sold on it.
Also, I didn't like the "Got it backwards" line that much -- it's a great line -- but I have such a strong dislike for Web that my initial reaction was "omigod what an arrogant prick -- aren't there rules against that?"
but I'm surprised that I'm not yet feeling the two performers I was most sure of going in.
Same here, Matt. Katie just didn't get much screen time and all her lines seemed to set someone else up without really making her noticable. AB seemed stiff and I didn't get why Danny Love seemed to have such a chip on his shoulder. I'm hoping things get revealed about both of them soon.
This was great. Be proud, Tim! Those mean critics were wrong on this.
I love Peter Coyote.
I love Katie Finneran.
I love Adam Baldwin.
I like Rachel Nichols. The rest of the cast still has time to prove themselves, of course, but I thought Jay Harrington and Nelsan Ellis needed to be a bit more subtle. Carter's introduction was way too brief, and I really looking forward to seeing some character development with Mel & Danny.
There was plenty of exciting plot twists and great dialogue, as I expected, and I loved how the show was much more about the characters than the murder mystery. I loved the noir-y cinematography, too. This wasn't a brilliant start, but it was a very good one.
I'm excited for next Wednesday now.
