You know, if it's a whole universe in here, I'm not sure we have enough chairs for everybody.
The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
It's a very small universe. Those infinite ones are so passé.
Damn, and I just threw out the futon.
Anyway, I have my chair, those folks standing in the back should be quicker next time.
Simon, the answer is, "I think so."
Isn't there a lot of censoring of violence in the UK, though?
Not really. While there's a general sense of the British censoring more violence and les sex, in truth, and certainly as far as TV goes, it seems to be more about the timeselot than the actual content.
They just juggle around airing timeslots to accocomadate for violent content of shows, rather than cut them. When Buffy and Angel used to air here, certain cuts would be made so as to enable the show to air before 9pm. Luckily uncut re-runs were kindly scheduled for more mature viewers, which would be at 10 or 11pm at the weekends.
Thinking about this, I imagine that a even a show such as Lost which isn't very violent, but does feature some fighting, guns etc, will probably air in a later slot over here, maybe 9pm. Not certain (I am not very up-to-speed with our domestic product at the moment!) but likely imho.
I imagine The Inside would certainly be post 9pm. I'm guessing 10pm if there's lots of blood. The good thing is that there seems to be a growing trend for US imports to be shown uncut, and later. My prediction for The Inside is maybe to take the US timeslot and add an hour. :)
Speaking of US/Uk edits...
Interestingly... when the Season One DVD set of 24 was relaeased over here, there was some contoversy over the fact that initial quanitites contained the "US versions" of some episodes, and not the "Uncut Full episodes as seen on UK Television" There were vouchers and adresses and places to send to get the sets replaced and everything. I am a procrastinator, so I still have the 'erroneous' US Versions of the episodes.
Hmmm. What that story has to do with The Inside or violence on UK Television I have no idea (and I am pretty sure the snips in the US episodes were simply for time vs. commercials). It just leaped into my mind and would not leave until typed.
I still feel bad for the US fans of Spooks who have huge chunks lopped of each episode for time (and alleged "continuity") reasons. In a perfect world I would have thought to bring presents of uncut goodness to LA MI-5 fans. :(
But if it's not Angel, it's not Z to A!
I'm with ita on the alphabetical chessiness.
"Unidentified female hands degloved face slashed off..."
.... nothing to see here ...

So you guys had stuff in the UK episodes that we didn't have in the US episodes? (Did you actually see the plane explode in the pilot?)
Nothing to see here, move along.

Only teeny tiny bits. Were it significant I would have been less of a procrastinator and actually remembered to get my boxset exchanged.
If I remember correctly there are only a few small differences, and I think they were only in later episodes... I think there were some additional "Jack talks to loved ones on cellphone" scenes, and a few other bits and pieces, but it was all small stuff I think, in just a few episodes. Certainly nothing that seems 'missing' when having watched the DVD episodes consecutively.
I only even remember the whole US/UK thing because of the fuss that was made at the time with adverts in DVD magaizines etc. about how consumers could exchange their 'faulty' sets before a certain date.
As for the plane, I'm not sure... I can't honestly remember it not exploding... memory is hazy and I've long taped over the aired UK episodes...because I have my DVDs. Which are... ah... incorrectly issued US versions. Bugger.
nothing here either...
