You guys had a riot? On account of me? A real riot?

I want a mini. Actually, I want two. One for my house and one for my car...Oh! And possibly one for the plasma TV I will someday own.

Yeah. I really need to stop visiting byodkm.net

you mean a Mac Mini, right?

What's byodkm.net?

Oh. figgered it out. Henh. Apparently they do go in cars.

What else can I do with a mac mini?

Kristen - Mar 20, 2005 7:04:50 pm PST #5387 of 10001

Yes, I do. I thought I could use one mini as like a little server for all the files I don't need to carry around on the Shiny!PowerBook!of!Fabulousness! I've been trying to get a free one but I still need two more people.

And byodkm.net is a mac mini fansite. They post all the latest mac mini stories. There's a bunch of people who have put them in their cars. And there was a story the other day about a company that is doing custom coloring of the cases.

I think one of my imaginary mac minis is pink.

You can by a pink skin for one at skinit. I probably will.

Okay, but why put them in a car? Why attach it to a plasma TV? What's the benefit?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Why attach it to a plasma TV?

Media server, kinda TiVoish.

Don't get the car thing, though, unless it's a music server.

Some of them are. Some of them aren't.

I mean, I could put my entire CD collection on a mini and load it into my car. That's even better than PhatNoise.

And, see, this is why I need to stay away from that site. I turn into an episode of Pimp My Ride.

An 80G mini, Kristen? Cause otherwise, why not just get an iPod?

Huh.

Kristen - Mar 20, 2005 7:24:55 pm PST #5392 of 10001

Oh sure. Be practical.

DCJensen - Mar 20, 2005 7:26:50 pm PST #5393 of 10001
All is well that ends in pizza.

An 80G mini, Kristen? Cause otherwise, why not just get an iPod?

Because an iPod can't be loaded with a DVD filled with even more MP3s, or a casual CD here and there on the fly.

a casual CD here and there on the fly.

They have these cool things that they'll install in the factories in most cars these days. I think they call them CD players.

Why would I want more intelligence in my car? GPS and directions and mapping with a link to the current traffic and weather conditions -- that'd be nice. Tapping my phone into my car's electronics (pausing the music when it rang, etc) would be good. Hooking the PDA somehow so it'd remind me (even when I'm not in the car) to make an appointment to get my oil changed would save my brain cells too.
