The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
Dude, "Karma Chameleon" is one of my favorites. I'll give you "Penguin."
Same here.
Are the Wonderfalls episodes in a different or the wrong order on the DVDs?
For the DVD's two changes to the episode order were made:
1. Pink Flamingos was moved to second, because Todd Holland wanted an episode he directed to come second on the DVD set. I actually like this order better than the original, though I suppose it really doesn't matter in terms of continuity.
2. Barrel Bear was put seventh. If you go by production order it should be after Crime Dog. FOX would've aired it second-to-last (FOX didn't really like the episode and they wanted to air it later; Tim Minear agreed that it was a weak episode, so he gave in to FOX, even though this order would make no sense continuity-wise). Bryan Fuller decided retrospectively that the episode would fit best between "Muffin Buffalo" and "Lovesick Ass," so this is where the episode is on the DVD's. Personally, I think it works significantly better before "Muffin Buffalo," though I kinda like to pretend that "Barrel Bear" never happened. And now, if you watch the episodes in the DVD order, you'll see the Previously for "Muffin Buffalo" (which includes a clip from "Barrel Bear") before you see "Barrel Bear."
Oh. What was the episode that had that scene in the kitchen?
Wound-Up Penguin had several kitchen scenes.
I enjoyed Barrel Bear, but I've no idea why. At least Mahandra admitted to acting totally weird and out of character. Maybe the "starting over" and "never too late" themes are resonating with me. Maybe I just liked Jaye's outfit. And Eric was hot.
"Karma Chameleon" was the only episode I didn't lovelovelove upon airing, and it was much improved by elapsed time when I watched on DVD. I still think it and "Totem Mole" are probably the weakest episodes. But to be fair they're facing some pretty stiff competition that could make almost anything look bad in comparison.
I know from Soldier's Girl that Lee Pace is amazingly talented, but "Crime Dog" is the only episode of Wonderfalls that showed me even a hint of it. By contrast, there's barely a moment of the entire series when Caroline's and Katie's performances don't blow me away. Tyron starts out strong, but as his character gets more seriously romantic and less bantersome, the appeal fades.
I went to see "The Aviator" today, and one of the actors was super familiar, so of course I hit IMDB as soon as I got home, and while I don't recognize any of his creds and still can't figure out why he's familiar, there was one interesting item on there - Wonderfalls. Apparently he was the original Aaron. My dvds haven't arrived yet, was Aaron really played by Adam Scott in "Wax Lion", or was he recast before it aired?
he was re-cast before it aired. i remember seeing the original cast pictures and seeing him in them.

how funny! i just realized he played the skeezy teacher in the recent ep of Veronica Mars.
Thanks! It's been so long since I've seen it, it could've been Leonardo DiCaprio playing Aaron and I wouldn't remember.
Polgara!
Got your message while throwing out my back lifting a carpet steam cleaner into my trunk.
I am in pain. However! I missed a movie outting which is sad making.
Lovesick Ass.
Excellent.
I almost want it to be over now, because then it could end on a happy note, without the romantic troubles I'm sure are coming. I know Heidi-ho will show up, because I know who plays her, and so I'm sure Eric will do something stupid, and this makes me annoyed before I've even seen him do it.
But he is awfully cute. I loved the whole "we're both screwed up, this will never work, so we should start dating right now" speech. When he said it, it almost made sense.

Aww, that sucks muchly! Sorry about the pain. But at least you have sparkly clean carpets now, yes?
