The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

I can't even.

What about a futon? I hear there's this one with a really interesting provenance floating around.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

It's in my apartment. And it's gotta go.

Maybe she'll swap.

Cranberry, why not do a script giveaway at your site? I'm sure Bryan and/or Tim will send a couple of signed scripts your way, and you can judge an LJ icon contest (that advertises the DVDs), and give scripts to the winners.

Then you can put the best ones up for grabs for people's LJs.

Firefly has done a lovely job of promoting the DVDs by donating hundreds of copies to the armed forces.

You could do the same sort of promotion and have DVDs donated to women's shelters.

Try writing to Andy Partridge and get a boxed set signed as well, and do a giveaway.

I did a contest once where people had to write a short story using all the titles of Fury's episodes, and the winners got to attend an online writers' workshop with him.

You could do the same thing and giveaway an autographed box set.

Make sure you post it to all the relevant websites, including the Firefly sites. You'd do well to get a signed script from Jewel, as well.

It's a bit of work, but you can farm out pieces to trusted friends. It all helps promote the DVDs in the same grassrootsy way that we promoted the show.

I was fine when existence had no meaning. Meaninglessness in a universe that has no meaning -- that I get. But meaninglessness in a universe with meaning? What does that mean?

Those are all great suggestions, Allyson! I'll ask Bryan about the scripts next time I see him. Is it okay if I paste your post into Ginger's thread in our forums so other fans can see the ideas (and maybe volunteer to help with some of them)?

Sounds okay to me, Cranberry.

If you do a signed script thingy, make sure it gets posted to Whedonesque. They get something like 8000 hits per day.

Definitely. I asked Bryan and he said he and Todd will sign some scripts and DVD sets for us. We'll probably do one creative contest where we give away scripts and one promotion-related one where we give away DVDs. Some people from my forums (including the woman who designed SaveWonderfalls) are also making a new site called WhatisWonderfalls.com for new viewers. We're getting show clips and lots of pictures. We're going to advertise it with business cards with a penny taped to them -- on the side with the penny they say "see a penny, pick it up" and on the other side there's a picture of the wax lion with "whatiswonderfalls.com" underneath. Hopefully we can get people to leave them all over their cities.
