Oh shut up, Queen BNF.
The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
Perhaps I was not using the correct definition of "fan" and "fandom," Kristen. I didn't mean it at all negatively. I agree that everyone wanted to hang out with Nilly for all sorts of wonderful reasons. I'm a fan of hers because of her writing and the wonderful, friendly, open way she seems to have with everyone. I do think she's become famous within this community, and that her fame has spread beyond it onto other boards. I don't think this is a bad thing. It's because she's so intelligent and nice, and puts a lot of energy and talent into the community and into expressing her take on things we love.
I don't know Tim or Nilly, and hope that I'm not being too presumptuous, but it seems to me that Tim's generosity to Nilly was because of the wonderful qualities of hers that I mentioned above and in my previous post. I think that he saw something wonderful in Nilly's posts, and wanted to share that in person and with the community. I think this represents the very best qualities of a community, and I certainly never intended to imply any of the sordid or negative implications that sometimes come with "fan" or "fandom."
I'm sorry if there was any misunderstanding, and hope that this clarifies matters rather than mucking them up worse.
My Vanity Google mostly comes up with Alyson Hannigan's name misspelled. And "Allyson A Popgurl."
My name is too common to get anything useful out of a vanity Google. "Polter-Cow," however, brings up me and only me, which I enjoy.
The Buffistas aren't a fandom, but they are of fandom. We may be no more representative than, say, the Kittens, but we're both 'net fandom, no?
I come up first on a vanity google of my name. Then a lady who was apparently the first African American professor at some university in the South. Most of the libkitty stuff seems to be me as well, although there is some stuff in French that seems to relate to a .dll.
Aren't we Joss Whedon's Official Site, according to the TV Guide Channel?
The Buffistas aren't a fandom, but they are of fandom.
I think that's how it started but is it really still the case? I mean, even before every show we followed got knocked off the air, how many Buffistas would have cited fandom-related discussion as their primary reason for posting here?
ita, however, is a BNF. She gots the SOs.
The Buffistas aren't a fandom, but they are of fandom.
You say this much better than I, ita. And shorter too, which is almost always a good thing.
I mean, even before every show we followed got knocked off the air, how many Buffistas would have cited fandom-related discussion as their primary reason for posting here?
Not even I. Fandom is how I found buffistas in the first place, but I stay because of the community.
