"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

There were just other pressing things to discuss, like the evolution of John Cougar Mellencamp, tomato preferences, Muppet cannibalism, and the importance of hats on statues.

Also, what the difference is between a swamp, a marsh and a bog. Which led to the great Nilly comment "You have too many words!".

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

Bwah! I keep remembering these little gems from the day- I'd forgotten that one. This morning I was driving home from a meeting, grumbling about the earliness, when I remembered Nilly marvelling over the greenness of everything. Then I was kind of grateful for my woodsy drive home. Although, still in dire need of coffee.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Does she post here, Heather?

Not that I know of. I haven't talked to her in a while. The last time was when she had her second daughter. Her mom lives(ed?) down here, and we used to see her, but lost touch there too.

Now I feel like a crap friend.

Allyson - i have a few of the boards up here. i found the one where "Cairo" came to the board upset because her friend told her black girls couldn't be slayers. so it's there. i also put a few posts in notepad just to reference here.

SarahNicole - There's a new poster, mostly nights. Her name is Penlind and she's a professor at UMich in Ann Arbor. You show say hi sometime. She very nice. She gave me one of her brothers in law, an Irish vet. :-)

Roberto...Hola, como esta? O italiano?

Newfan...I'm so glad you're here tonight, friend. I finally got a hold of the new society in Niles, and plan to start attending meeting. If you're in Philadelphia I'll bet you're Orthodox, aren't you? I'm Wilburite, but since I teach on a secular campus, I don't dress simply.

Penlind says: (Mon Apr 2 21:37:17 2001 209.240.220.159)

StG...Am I going to be thrown out if I answer very quickly? A Wilburite is a strict Quaker order...we dress in non-patterened clothing of few colors and a covering. Unfortunately, due to some awful stereotypes, students become uncomfortable with this, thinking that it means we stand in judgement. As you know from our conversation the other night, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, many others find us dangerously liberal...especially on such topics as abortion. I cannot condemn it, although I would not choose to have one because of my personal beliefs. I can only explain that I cannot make that judgement for others, and to condemn is not my place. I believe in a God of love and understanding, and leave it in his hands. We tick a lot of people off.

StG...I just reread the posting rules, and I used up my allotment tonight! Sorry. It's just so interesting, every once in a while to get the Bronzers opinion of the subject they know like the back of their hands. Half of the Humanities department are Buffy addicts, but we lack the indepth understanding that all of you have. So while we can discuss the superstition and pantheon, we have no idea how is relates to interloping plotline. None of the others are brave enough to try and pick your brains, so you are stuck with me. StG, if you are here tomorrow, I promise to stay on long enough that we can have a decent conversation...on Buffy or travel or anything else you would like. Clancy has asked that I teach him how to use "one of those contraptions of ..." (computer) so that you two may write unfettered. Have a great night, friend, and hope I hear from you on the morrow.

i'll be putting up more boards as i find them and time. so you can bookmark that addy. if it gets full, i will just create another account or something and let you know.

What is even happening?

Wow, tiggy. Blast from the past. Just. Wow. Do you remember when Penlind's "assistant" posted about how wonderful "Doc" was. And how about when she was supposedly posting from Ireland, but seemed to be hitting US hours.

Oy.

Punishingly Intricate

Wow. This is totally fascinating to me (in a car wreck sort of way and maybe a little because my project at work right now is really Hard). Would anyone want to give a brief synopsis of the whole "Penlind" story?

Sits cross-legged on the floor with lisah and waits for the car-crash story

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Fruit Loops (as per the discussion):

I didn't think about it at the time, but it occurs to me now that Plei sent a donation to a foundation for the disease my brother had. I know my parents sent a nice note (though I think my mother was a little confused about how I had a friend in Seattle where I've never been), but that could have just as easily come from me. Only one buffista knows that I actually exist as me- but just because I'm a real person, doesn't really mean I'm the me y'all think you know.

It's weird and making my head hurt.

Prolly not a serial post any more.

Do you remember when Penlind's "assistant" posted about how wonderful "Doc" was.

I don't remember that, but i did find a post in there from "Rye" who was supposedly her husband, Riley. i think it's in one of the boards i uploaded.

And how about when she was supposedly posting from Ireland, but seemed to be hitting US hours.

hmmm...i don't remember when that was either. right now i'm digging through the june 01 files to find the blow-up. i was thinking it was right around then. i found a post by Allyson talking to someone about the "atmosphere" of the bronze and she mentioned that if it weren't for people like her people would be sending money to Penlind for her sick child. so i know it was before the middle of june. i'm trying to be incognito about this because really? i should be working. however, this is more fun.

for those who are wanting the Penlind story, i'd say Allyson is probably a better one to ask than me. my memory is fuzzy. not to mention that i was a virtual newbie when all of this started happening.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

When I worked for a forum on AOL we had two weird things like this. One, a long elaborate story involving a woman who had a brain tumor and went blind and eventually died, giving her children to the other woman, her sock puppet. She got a lot of gifts and money out of that.

The other was supposedly two girls in Australia, except there was only one, she posted about the wrong seasons, she posted in what would be the middle of the night for Australia, and I eventually tracked her ISP to Utah.

Eta: one of the girls was supposedly a paraplegic, as well.
