The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

Strawberry disappointment.

For those of you who thumb your nose at international copyright law Wonderfalls 1/11 and Dead Like Me 2/1 are on SN.

Article on TV series released on DVD - several Wonderfalls mentions, along with Freaks and Geeks and Family Guy. Sounds like there's a big market for quality TV shows that didn't make it on the networks.

Cranberry, I hope you find a way to make it to San Diego. Good luck! C'mon cyber-saver!!

I was fine when existence had no meaning. Meaninglessness in a universe that has no meaning -- that I get. But meaninglessness in a universe with meaning? What does that mean?

I'm going! I got my ticket last night, so now it's for sure. Still have to find a place to stay... but I'm going. I'm really excited about that Sunday at comic-con.

If only that could translate into a big market for quality TV shows actually airing ON the networks...

Not having has never been the thing I've regretted most in my life. Not trying is.

That's great, Cran. Have a fabulous time. And then tell us all about it!!!

I think that's the problem with the current system. The audience is evidently there (1 million copies of Freaks and Geeks on DVD), and they're willing to pay to see quality TV, but the only way networks get paid is by getting huge ratings so they can sell commercial time for big bucks. The smart, quirky stuff I like doesn't seem to draw big enough to survive against the American Idols and such. As long as it's ad-based, I don't hold out much hope. I'd have gladly paid to see Wonderfalls, and if everything goes according to plan, I guess I will in December, just doesn't get me a second season.

I just signed up for satellite so I can get Showtime and watch the new season of Dead Like Me.

Sunday? Are you sure? Saturday tends to be the big media day...

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm pretty sure the Wonderfalls stuff is Sunday.

I was fine when existence had no meaning. Meaninglessness in a universe that has no meaning -- that I get. But meaninglessness in a universe with meaning? What does that mean?

The Dead Like Me panel, Joss's Serenity panel and the Wonderfalls screening are all on Sunday, so I'm excited about those.

Saturday is a much bigger day in general, though.

Remember, remember/the fifth of November/the Gunpowder Treason and Plot/I see no reason/Why Gunpowder Treason/Should ever be forgot.

Well it does make scheduling a lot easier. Last couple of years, the saturday panels usually had two or three really good panels per slot, making it hard to decide...
