Ah, Illyria. That's my girl.
It's hard to feel sad with a room full of friends. More like a cheerful wake. Spoiled, of course, I knew Wesley was gone, though I'd been girding my loins for it for a dog's age.
Loved Gunn tonight.
"Wesley is dead. I am feeling grief for him. I don't seem to be able to control it. I wish to do more violence."
Yeah. That was about as perfect as I could have hoped for. Loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved it.
Every bit. Poetry slam had me tearing up, and Wesley's death had me sobbing. Fred-as-lie was good for me, because Illyria clearly cared about Wesley and so I just read it as her expressing her feelings the best way possible. Plus, I miss Fred, despite loving Illyria. Want both at the same time.
Okay, I don't have anything else to say. I won't be around tomorrow, or if I am not 'til pretty late, but enjoy life here on the boards without me.
Just have to delurk here to say:
CRAP!
And
You so own the dragon!
And
For someone who claimed to have "pretty handwriting," Angel's signature on the Shanshu prophecy scroll was a nasty scrawl. Was he trying to fudge?
I think so. I couldn't get "Angel" out of it. I thought maybe "Liam," but like the fudging idea better for the movie that must be upcoming. This just can't be the end.
Oh, I hope it's the end. I like it ending this way. I don't want to know what happens to them. Sure it's a "cliffhanger," I guess, but I think they're all going to die. I'm good with that.
But if I'm wrong... why show me?
I like the uncertainty. It wasn't uncertainty that in anyway made me feel "WHAT???" it was uncertainty that made me thing "Wow."
I see your point, and I know I'm weak for wanting closure, but I still want it. I want to see them fighting dragons. I want to see them emerge, broken physically, mentally, and emotionally; I want to see them hopeless, and watch them create hope out of nothing by simply refusing to give up. I still want more.
Thank you to Kathy Astrom for being such a lovely hostess for the Chicago finale party. It was great to get to watch with Buffistas (and a TTer) and fun to see how similarly or differently we reacted to various things.
I have no idea if any of the following is remotely coherent as it is very late and I am getting bleary. You are forewarned.
I wasn't spoiled (well ok, I knew about the poetry, but I didn't know it would be THAT poem) but I knew Wes was a goner, and I could see what was coming just before it happened more than I am usually comfortable with, but it all seemed right and good and in keeping with the themes of the show. I didn't want Wes to die, or Lorne to leave, or Angel to sign away the shanshu, or...or...or... but I laughed, I hurt and it worked for me. I would've enjoyed seeing more of the individual battles with the Evil Pricks, but I'm glad the final battle was left open ended.
I loved the way things wrapped up and although I would've loved a sixth season I have no burning desire for any one off TV movies. I think this was a satisfying conclusion to Angel's story.
Oh, and I refuse to acknowledge the text that appeared after "Thank You." In my head, it was a thank you from Mutant Enemy. This is a good delusion. I recommend it.
I feel like I have closure. Sure, they could die in the next fifteen minutes. Heck, I hope they do (if they bring out an Angel movie I will be VERY skeptical about its topping this, and I really hope they don't because the characters are all dead. Something they could mention in a Buffy movie, actually, which I would LOVE to see.) But they're heroes - their lives are always in danger, and they could always die in the next fifteen minutes. Just because we see their killers before the credits roll doesn't make it any different.
If the episode had been exactly the same, except that after Illyria says "I feel grief for him that I cannot control" or whatever, Angel said "Welcome to humanity," turned to Gunn, and said "Well. Keep fighting the good fight?" and Gunn had said "You know it." and the four survivors had walked out of the raining alley, into their destinies, would that have been better closure for you? Because the danger they were in wasn't immediately evident?
Honestly, I would like that ending too, now that I think about it. But I like this one better.
Got to the end of the thread after a long slog back from Worcester at the casa Infante (met Lee and Matt the Bruins fan...and the ferrets - wee!). Thanks to Victor and Thessaly for hosting!!!!
No coherent thoughts. I think Angel ordered Lorne to kill Lindsey, though. And I think Lorne still liked Lindsey, but saw the necessity of it. Loved the ending...the fight goes on (and no one turned into Skittles). I LOVE how what would be the big battle on any other show (including Buffy) was basically an after thought. It was the individual efforts that mattered most, and how they faced them. And "Let's go to work" was the perfect last line for "it's what we do that matters" Angel.
Anyway, it's wicked late, and thank dog I took tomorrow off - it would have taken longer than I realized to get home even if I'd left early, and I was very happy to be able to hang out for once.
