AD is too good looking to do full-on funny without having to go for dorky, unless it's the wry, snarky funny that presumes the character has a brain. Most funny guys that I can think of on TV are basset hound types--loveable, kind of clueless, kind of clumsy. The kind of guy who gets the girl that says "I just want a guy who makes me laugh."

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Wesley slipping and missing the whole battle in Graduation Day makes me laugh.

Guy #1: Man, there are so many hipsters around. I hate hipsters! Guy #2: You're at the wrong place. That's like going to Vegas only to say "I hate titties!" --The Warsaw, Williamsburg (OINY)

I love both Wesleys, though I hated him until he came to Angel. The rogue demon hunter stuff made me laugh myself silly.

There was enough competence there to give the funny some support. And establishing the endearing dorkiness made his dangerous moments even more fun. Shooting the mini-crossbow bolt into the guy's hand in "The Ring"--I sat there and blinked and said, "Wesley???"

I just bought the book Five Seasons of Angel: Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Discuss Their Favorite Vampire" a few days ago. There's a good essay on "The Path of Wesley Wyndham-Price" that goes how he's actually been a remarkably consistent character from Buffy Season 3 up to the end of Angel.

I'm only about halfway through it so far, but there's some good commentary on the show. I liked the essay on Lindsey ("Why We Love Lindsey"), and Jennifer Crusie has what looks to be a pretty interesting essay on "The Assassination of Cordelia Chase" (I haven't read that far yet).

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Oh, that sounds very cool, Kathy.

There's another compilation by the same editor, using many of the same authors, for The Seven Seasons of Buffy (that one has a blurb from Nora Roberts on the back--I knew she was a Buffy fan!).

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

I have Seven Seasons of Buffy. Unfortunatly, it's somewhere in my car.

Makes note to hit Borders this afternoon and use that gift card finally.

Call first to make sure they have it in stock, Frank. Luckily, the Borders near me did have the Angel book, but I think they were out of the Buffy one.
