I don't like vampires. I'm gonna take a stand and say they're not good.

[NAFDA] This is where we talk about the show! Anything that's aired in the US (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though -- if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

For Firefly, the random Chinese slang bugged me, as did the "gorram" sort of slang, and it bugged me in the same self-consciously-trying-too-hard way BtVS S1's Teenage So-Calese slang bugged, at the beginning of BtVS S1.

I loved the Chinese slang, and learned to love the gorram-ary. It was consistent in it's interior logic and world-building. It might have required a buy-in, but once you made that adjustment then it added a lot of texture to the show.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Tep, I hereby order you to remain in the Firefly Wasn't So Great Club. And make me a sandwich.

"Woman! Get back in the kitchen and make me a SAMMICH!"

Look at that commitment! She is ready to take charge. She is not shirking responsibility - oh no.

What is even happening?

Oh, HELL yes. This. So so SO much.
The sad thing is, I'm not sure my posts would bear this out. I suspect if I went back into the Firefly 1 thread, I'd be all fangurly, even about that stuff. I thin I might have to face that it was more Joss thrall, pretty actor thrall, and Buffista thrall feeding my head, than the show itself.

A better test would probably be to watch the DVDs you own. Preferably with print outs of Nilly commentary nearby.

Actually, as I think about it, there were snippets that I liked about Firefly. Some of the dialogue was fabulous -- pure Joss. I liked Zoe a lot. And I loved the Calvinball game.

There just weren't enough snippets of goodness to hook me. (And -- I cannot stress this enough -- I loathed the frelling Hero of Canton. I don't know why he didn't get kicked out of an airlock. Which is why I was so resistant to him coming to Angel. Until he showed up in that suit and was all suave and masterful and -- GUH.)

I can't even.

There's Buffista thrall? Can we make Cindy do stuff (of course porn stuff, duh) too?

We'd have to figure out who is the boss of her. Maybe Cash or Allyson. Though I think she'd do best under the strict but loving guidance of The Kristen.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I liked Zoe a lot.

I guess my Jayne is your Rygel. Or vice versa.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Firefly's calls were stopped by an alien power, not Firefly himself.

This was close to what I was going to say, except I was going to phrase it as "Firefly didn't stop calling - somebody put a bullet in his head".
