Buffy? I like that. That girl's so hot, she's buffy.

Angel 5: Is That It? Am I Done?

[NAFDA] This is where we talk about the show! Anything that's aired in the US (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though -- if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

All is well that ends in pizza.

I usually don't notice the HoYay, but the Spike/Angelus vibe in the flashbacks was evident this time, even to me.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

I found that I liked a lot of this season's episodes by themselves, but I frequently felt like I didn't really know where the season was going.

This frustrated me about this season. It felt like all flash and very little substance; like they forgot their loyal viewers in searching for new ones. One of the things I have loved about all of Whedon's series is that they generally manage to make episodes work both as standalones and as part of an arc. But I think that they finally sacrificed the arc.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

But I think that they finally sacrificed the arc.

I think there were meta reasons for that.

Although it is ironic that it went back to the format it was supposed to have year one (i.e. no or little arc).

I understand. I just don't like.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I understand.

But do you comprehend?

I heard Alias was put under the same pressure to be less arc-y and more stand-alone-y last season, and having finished watching it on DVD, I think it was still pretty successful at keeping a decent arc, moreso than Angel S5.

I tried to get that in, but my brain just couldn't do it today. Thanks!

Um.

It seems Amazon are selling various Fox DVD sets cheap. Angel S1 for US$15.

edit - thanks Kate.

What is even happening?

I was just going through my bookmarks, to clean them out, and found this: Ling Mao "Angel 4: Well, It's a Start." Feb 25, 2004 7:21:51 pm PST

I'll paste the text, because Angel 4 is closed, and could get archived.

From an Angel writers' panel at last year's San Diego con:

Jeff Bell then directed the conversation to another writer, Steven DeKnight, who was greeted with huge applause and offered, "I'll tell you an aspect. I wish I could sit here and tell you that we struggle and it's tears and sweat 24 hours a day, but we have the best time you've ever seen. We spend 90 per cent of our time laughing our asses off. And to give you an example, the other day I believe we spent a good, solid hour with a vigorous argument between who would win in a fight against an astronaut and a caveman. And it actually got angry in the room!"

I was laughing myself sick during that exchange.

eta...Oh upon scrolling, I guess Ling Mao posted that because the Astronauts v. Caveman episode aired then. I thought it aired later in the season, and that she's displayed some awesome E.S.P. t /litella
