Amazon sent my dvds UPS instead of USPS which means that I won't get them 'til Monday. If they deign to leave the package for me. I wonder if I leave a big sign on my door: UPS GUY PLEASE LEAVE THE PACKAGE AGAINST MY DOOR if they'll do that.
Amazon did the same thing to me. And, sadly, they won't leave it unless you're there. I arranged for it to be held so I can pick it up, but if I didn't have a car that wouldn't be feasible, given that they seem to locate their warehouses as far from the reach of the non-driving public as possible.

And like to close them on Saturday, at least here. I hate getting shipments from UPS. USPS, FedEX -- wonderful. I can pick up within either walking distance or 15 minutes. UPS is across town, during trafficky hours.
Well, last time I had a UPS package -- they made two attempts, I told them to leave it with my upstairs neighbor and they did. They didn't get a signature, they just left it in front of their door.
Now, why would they do that for somebody else but not for me?

It depends on the instuctions that Amazon sent out. If Amazon said "must sign in person", than that's what UPS will stick to. Stupid UPS. Stupid Amazon. They have a perfectly good form they leave that you could sign off on the back of with instructions, but if Amazon said "nuh uh" than it's no doing.

And yet, I had a bicycle delivered, in one of those rather distinctive boxes with Trek all the hell over it, that was left right on the edge of the porch in broad daylight. Pure luck that it wasn't gone before I got home.
My brother just got his computer shipped UPS. They tried once, no one was home, and they left a note saying that they'd be back the next day. It didn't come the next day, and when he called, they said it had been delivered the evening before. He checked out the signature when he went to the processing plant and it was a big scrawly backwards-written last name that was not ours. Two days later, the four year old down the street (whom they had delivered it to) brought it down to us.
I'm feeling more and more lucky... I work in a place that takes UPS packages all the time, and the deliverywoman for our department knows all of us by name, who we work for and with, who she can leave a package with or what nooks are easily findable by the addressee but not a thief if the addressee isn't in.
I think I need to give this woman a dozen roses the next time I see her.

That's one strong four-year-old.
I just checked the UPS tracking on my Angel DVD's and they should be delivered TODAY!!!!
Please let someone be home to accept the box, though our UPS guy tends to leave stuff regardless
Not too bad for the free shipping from Amazon.
