Angel 5: Is That It? Am I Done?

[NAFDA] This is where we talk about the show! Anything that's aired in the US (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though -- if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

Ann, that's a ferret.

I like AYNOHYEB, but it seems to me there was a fair amount of dissent here when it aired.

I actually looked at the original TT Angel threads not too long ago. There was some dissent, largely over the too (or not enough) anvilicious handling of the '50s setting.

The evil is this way?

Maybe the Drogyn lost his eternal youth if he left his post?

That works for me. (I have been assuming that some lines explaining Drogyn got cut for time.)

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Huh. I remember being distinctly underwhelmed by AYNOHYEB. And I've always been reluctant to mention that fact, since it's so universally loved here.

It's okay. I recently re-watched it, and while I like the flashback transitions and the 50s setting, I don't feel like it's one of the best ever (although it's one of the best stand-alones, I think (Angel's strength was in the arc; Buffy had more memorable stand-alones)). It doesn't feel Angel-y enough to me, maybe because of the confined setting. It's a very good, solid episode, but I'll join you in the underwhelmed club, for now. It's possible Tim's commentary might make me appreciate it more.

Though this line cracked me up:

It's kind of like a puzzle. The "Who died horribly because Angel screwed up fifty years ago?" game.

"Oh no! Has falling sky liquid once again caused you the sadness?" -Starfire

Count me in as one of the few who was underwhelmed by AYNOHYEB.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

AYNOHYEB: BOR-ing.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Count me in as one of the few who was underwhelmed by AYNOHYEB.

AYNOHYEB: BOR-ing.

I understand all these words, but these sentences make no sense...

I've been working on a song about the difference between analogy and metaphor.

ignoring the AYNOHYEB heretics

The marathon seems skewed to S5, which argues ... that people want to rewatch what they've seen most recently, or that they want to rewatch what they don't have on DVD.

I find the relative lack of S4 inexplicable, but you know I'm S4's bitch. I'm also confused by the presence of "Orpheus," because it's the worst of the S4 Faith arc; I'd have gone for "Salvage" or "Release." Or, non-Faithy, "Home," "Deep Down," or "Soulless" -- was "Soulless" the one all about the Angelus head games from the cage? That one.

Who are you people?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I liked AYNOHYEB (despite finding it a little anvily). But I didn't think it was the greatest thing since sliced bread or anything.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Yeesh, what's with the disturbing crazy talk? Next thing you know, fans of Dad and Provider will start coming out of the woodwork.

Worse than zombies, they are.
